Wapping started strongly and won the first penalty corner through good team work from Francesca Sutton with Jo Ward and Natasha Close up front. Although unsuccessful at their first attempt, Wapping continued to apply pressure to the Tunbridge Wells defence, forcing another corner which was struck by Close and saved by the keeper. Shortly after half-time, Tunbridge Wells surged forward to win their own penalty corner to put them ahead. Wapping fought back to take control of the game and the ball was passed to Fiodhna Burke who took it past the keeper to level the match. At the end of a great pass with two minutes to go, Close battled to slip the ball between the goalie’s legs. A great goal and great victory. Player of the match – Hannah Gage. The Ladies second team defeated Basildon firsts 2-1 at home and the third team, had a 3-2 victory over Chelmsford. Harleston Magpies 0 - Wapping 0 WAPPING men’s first team made the two-hour journey to Harleston Magpies knowing that the result would impact on who would win the Premier A division title and gain promotion into the National League. Wapping were in confident mood knowing they had picked up as many points as anyone else in the division in the secondhalf of the season. The game started at a high tempo and, even though Wapping enjoyed the majority of possession and territory, the game ended scoreless. Wapping found chances hard to come by while Harleston demonstrated why they had the best defensive record in the division. Harleston knew this was a game they had to win to keep their promotion chances alive and committed more players into attack in the second half. However they were unable to make the breakthrough. Wapping were due to finish their league campaign with a home fixture against Dereham on Saturday, March 22 at Mile End Stadium. Wapping men’s third team visited Colchester seconds and lost 4-3 while the fourth team beat Phoenix first team 2-0. A boccia tournament success Dad, 51, joins son for rugby Rugby Millwall 14 - South Woodham Ferrers 50 FOR 20 minutes this proved to be a tight game with no sign of the blitz that was to come. But towards the end of the first half South Woodham broke through for a try that opened up the floodgates. In the second half Millwall fought back with Nik Goodley leading the scoring on his debut with a try right under the posts. Scott Devine added the extra points with the conversion. John Wollerman, another debut player, scored Millwall's other try and Scott again added the extra points. The thirds had six players making their debuts, and they showed great determination against a very strong team. Special mention goes to Tim Kingsley-Smith for his first, and last, game for Milwall, and to father and son duo Robin, 51, and Tom Poynder, 19 (pictured above). Dad Robin said: "It was a great day for us both and it had long been an ambition of mine to play with Tom."
