Sajna Indian Grill in Whitechapel is no longer allowed to sell alcohol at any time. It has also been barred from selling hot food after 11pm, following the decision to uphold the revocation of its licence at an appeal hearing at Thames Magistrates Court on August 27. The restaurant’s licence had been reviewed three times by the council between 2012 and 2014, resulting in it being revoked at the final hearing. Licence holder, Abu Jahid of Whitechapel Road, E1, and owner Ali Akbor, of Locton Green, Ruston Street, E3, had twice before been fined for touting. Happy nappy days ADVICE on using real nappies will be available at the latest Nappuccino event being held at Idea Store Whitechapel this Thursday, September 11. The council will be working with the Washable Nappy Company, providing the chance to meet mums and dads who already use real nappies and find out the benefits of going green. Taking place from 10.30am- 12.30pm, residents can apply for a £40 voucher for real nappies, which will be available to buy. Parents must register beforehand as spaces are limited, and take proof of identity, address and birth or pregnancy in order to obtain a voucher. Part of Limehouse Childcare Ltd. BY IAN READ TIME is running out to join the network of volunteers who decide how to spend thousands of pounds to improve their local areas. The recruitment drive is part of the next stage of the local community ward forums initiative which was launched in December – and the deadline for applications is midnight on Sunday, September 14. The council is expanding the Mayor’s Community Champion Co-ordinators scheme to reflect the borough’s new ward make-up – there are now 20 wards rather than the previous 17 – and to increase the number of local people involved ahead of the next round of spending. Last year 86 champion coordinators were appointed to run ward forums – decisionmaking bodies which come up with ways of improving their area. Activities funded through these forums included a drug awareness event in Stepney, an intergenerational event in Limehouse and Wapping Business Hub. The forums also funded the Roman Road Festival, staged The Weavers Green Trail was funded by a local ward forum Access all transport areas RESIDENTS can find out more about accessible travel at an event on Thursday, September 18. Tower Hamlets Accessibility Day is free to anyone with mobility or learning difficulties and will provide information on transport options and how to access local services and recreational and cultural activities. Hosted by the council, the event is being held at Mile End Art Pavilion, Clinton Road, E3 from 11am-3pm. the Tour de Limehouse Festival and created the Weavers Green Trail, a new tour accompanied by an app which takes walkers around the area in Bethnal Green. Mayor Lutfur Rahman said: “We are proud to be putting power in the hands of local people. “Nobody knows t h e i r community better than the people who live there so it makes perfect sense to ask the residents how they would like to improve their surroundings. “If you are interested in this During the day there will be the chance to: try a specially adapted bicycle provided by the All Ability Cycling Club: join a community ambassador trip on the Docklands Light Railway; take part in an arts and crafts workshop provided by Poetry in Wood; get advice from a Transport for London travel mentor on how to access the public transport network; practise getting on and off double-decker and Dial-a-ride buses; raise accessibility issues; and find exciting project but haven’t got round to applying yet, I’d urge you not to miss out.” The new co-ordinators will be appointed in the autumn and the next round of spending will start in spring 2015. The co-ordinators are given training and will run several meetings with local people to decide how best to spend their allocated money.
