Sergeant Carl Sampson warned that affected post boxes have been in communal areas, commonly found in the borough’s tower blocks. Suspects are working in pairs to either follow residents into buildings or gain entry through intercom systems by posing as tradesmen. If you see anything suspicious call 999 in an emergency or 101 to offer police any descriptions of those who may be responsible. Visit www.nct.org.uk 95% of kids get primary choice BY STEFAN SWIFT THE waiting is over for parents as the majority of children – 94.8 per cent – starting primary school in September have gained a place at one of their top three choices. The performance is one of the best in London – the capital’s average is 92.6 per cent. The council’s primary school admissions policy, alongside its pupil place planning strategy, was designed to meet the increased demand for school places. In the past five years, the equivalent of 1,785 permanent extra primary school places have been provided by the council and a further 1,050 more will be created from the new school year in September. School places in the capital are allocated using the Pan-London Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme. It has been in effect for primary schools since 2011 and allows more parents to be allocated a school of their choice by a fairer distribution of available offers. Kate MacTiernan, who organises the festival, said: “We used the Lodge as a temporary office while the event was on, but we want to make the arrangement permanent. “The [planned] extension is about 40 square metres and that can fit around 45 people, which is ideal for workshops, talks, films and so on.” She called for the support of local businesses and individuals as the fundraiser enters its final week and said that those who donate would be permanently recognised with a plaque in the park grounds. To pledge help by the deadline of Tuesday, April 28, visit www.spacehive.com/shuffle reinventsthelodge Ms MacTiernan added that businesses that do not wish to pledge a donation via online payment systems PayPal or GoCardless, could email her directly on kate@shuffle festival.co.uk shared between different London boroughs. The council notified parents by email or letter of the outcome of their application on April 16. Those who have not been allocated a place at a chosen school now have the opportunity to secure a place at one of the schools where there are still places remaining. Overall, 96.6 per cent of children have been offered one of their top six choices. The success of the primary school admissions policy in the borough comes weeks after similar rates for pupils starting secondary school. In March it was announced that 93.55 per cent of pupils gained a place at one of their top three choice secondary schools in Tower Hamlets. Left: the Cemetery Park, where Shuffle is based.
