BY SHALINA HUSSAIN KEEP youngsters entertained during this week’s half-term holiday with free fun activities. Sporty young people can take advantage of BMX bike sessions in Mile End Park from Monday to Friday. There will be four sessions held each day at the BMX track for different age groups including a girls-only session for 11 years plus, hosted by the council and Tower Hamlets BMX Club. The one-hour sessions are aimed at children aged five to 16. Bikes and safety equipment will be provided. All riders must be confident cyclists. To book a place email pauline.stewart@ towerhamlets.gov.uk or call 7364 2433. Over at the Idea Stores regular clubs will have a Black History Month theme. Young people can take advantage of reading clubs (Boys’ Book Club on Mondays at 4pm, Girls’ Book Club on Tuesdays at 4pm and Teenage Book Club for over-12s on Thursdays at 4pm), Computer Club for under-16s on Wednesdays at 4pm and Art Club every Sunday at 2.15pm for ages six to 12. Teenagers can learn to rustle up a three-course meal from scratch at the Feed Your Talent workshops running on Thursdays from 4-6pm at the Brady Arts Centre in Hanbury Street, Whitechapel. This month is dedicated to Caribbean and Brazilian cuisine. Participants can stay on to take part in House of Talent – a series of youth art workshops after the cookery class. There will be a special fun day on Wednesday, October 29 at Victoria Park, in recognition of being voted the nation’s favourite park in the People’s Choice Award 2014. The fun day will include Get on your bike! R3cycler, the mini recycling robot, will be hosting the free hunts between 11am and 3pm at five parks. Joined by astronaut Ed, R3cycler is asking children for help to find clues to solve an intergalactic puzzle. Solve the puzzle and receive prizes including children’s space books, bags, water bottles and magnets. The treasure hunts are at Weavers Fields, E2 on Monday, October 27; Mile End Park (near Ariana Restaurant), E1 on Tuesday; the Hub Building, Victoria Park on Wednesday; St John’s Park, Manchester Road, E14 on Thursday; and King Edward Memorial Park, Wapping on Friday.
