Organised as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the support group will be at Chrisp Street Health Centre on October 24 from 10am-1pm and in Chrisp Street Market square from 12.30pm. They will provide advice, information and prizes, and a session on how to check for signs of cancer. For more on breast cancer visit www.smallc.org.uk/breast A new place to meet the police BY STEFAN SWIFT A NEW mobile police office will hit the streets this week, helping residents to report crime and anti-social behaviour issues more easily. Funded by the council, it has a private meeting area for confidential conversations with officers. The office contains a laptop and iPad with Wi-Fi access so that any serious crimes can be reported immediately, and it has a display monitor, a CCTV control unit and an external LED screen which can show public information. Staff will also be able to administer first aid treatment as the vehicle will carry PARENTS, staff and pupils at Cyril Jackson Primary School in Limehouse came together to celebrate the festival of Eid al-Adha. Celebrations included a whole school assembly, stage performances, the exchange of gifts and an Eid lunch, in which more than 100 parents and carers joined pupils to tuck into fish, spring rolls, chickpea curry, rice, vegetables and dessert. In the afternoon, each class had their own party. an automated electronic defibrillator and enhanced first aid kits. The vehicle can be mobilised quickly for events or to help police in emergency situations, and will be used to visit areas where crime is high but levels of reporting are low. Cllr Ohid Ahmed, cabinet member for community safety, said: “We hope that the mobile office will provide an easy access point to the police for all the borough’s residents beyond these initial surgeries, especially in crime hotspots and busy areas.” The mobile police office will initially support the council’s community safety surgery and walkabouts programme, which are being led by Cllr Ahmed, with police and partners. Surgeries and walkabouts are taking place in every ward of Tower Hamlets – with Cllr Ahmed and the borough’s Safer Communities and Neighbourhood Policing teams listening to concerns of residents. Surgeries are due to take place fortnightly on Fridays from 9.30-10.30am. The walkabouts are held afterwards until 12noon. The next surgery takes place in Spitalfields & Banglatown on Friday, October 24 at Tesco Express, Whitechapel Road, E1 where the mobile police unit will be launched by Cllr Ahmed.
