Sporting Bengal grabbed the early initiative in the tenth minute when Kadir Jama scored with a well taken shot on the edge of the box. Tower Hamlets were awarded a penalty three minutes before half-time, but Jerome Paul pushed Javier Riveira’s spot kick on to the bar. Five minutes into the second half, manager AJ Olatunbosun was sent off for a second bookable offence after which Sporting Bengal missed two golden opportunities to wrap up the game. But eventually the equaliser came when Luke With took advantage of some slack Sporting defending and bundled home from a free kick in the 88th minute. It got even better for Tower Hamlets in injury time when, from a late corner, Abdisamad was able to head a great ball past the keeper to complete the dramatic turnaround. Up for the cup THE Inner London Football League’s Premier Division was the only division in action as the other two were involved in the Challenge Cup. Fourth placed Bromley defeated SYA 3-0, Beaumont scored a great 5-2 away win at Leytonstone and the match between West End and London Tigers ended 2-2. In the cup the biggest shock was Tower Hamlets knocking out St Katharine’s. There were wins for Beaumont over Robin Hood Tigers, Burdett over Redcoat, St Katharine’s U21 against Al-Mizani and SCTA over West End Reserve. Weavers drew 3-3 with Bow, but went through 8- 7 on penalties. It was also Veterans League Cup weekend and London Tigers Vets will play Bromley Legends in the final. Tigers defeated Tower Hamlets Vets 2-0 on penalties in the semi-final. Bromley Legends won 2-0 against St Katharine’s Vets. Easy for holders FC HAMLETS began the defence of their London Junior Cup with a 4-1 first round hammering of south London side Seven Acres. Seven Acres began brightly and created a couple of halfchances within the first ten minutes, but Hamlets began to take control of the game and in the 25th minute a run down the right by midfielder Best ended with a cross which debut striker Foster headed home. The second half saw Hamlets step up a gear and in the 55th minute With forced his way through a crowd of players to rise and head home. Top scorer Gilroy came off the bench to score in the 65th minute after some clever footwork and a pass from Oakley. Three minutes later, a lofted ball into the Hamlets goal area saw a failed clearance fall to an Acres striker who tapped in from close range. With five minutes remaining midfielder With slotted the ball to Best who set the seal on the victory. Hockey Wapping can’t stop winning WAPPING Hockey Club had one of their most successful weekends yet with ten wins out of 15 games, three draws and only two losses. The Men’s 3rd team starred with a monster 15-0 win against University of Essex 1sts. Wapping men 2 Harleston Magpies 2 PREPARATIONS for the match against Harleston Magpies were dealt a blow when defender Mark Bennett was unable to take part. He sustained a deep head wound that needed stitches after being accidentally hit in the warm-up. D e s p i t e t h e s e t b a c k , Wapping created a number of clear early chances to score, but disappointingly only managed to convert one, a brilliant solo effort from Ollie Salvesen. The last ten minutes of the first half saw Harleston apply pressure and Wapping were made to pay for their poor finishing when the hosts scored two quick-fire goals, just before the interval. The second half produced yet more Wapping possession and pressure but yellow cards for both teams affected the flow of what was otherwise a high-quality and fast-paced match, between two well organised outfits. An equaliser eventually came when, on his Wapping debut, ex-Belgian junior international Felix Styles converted a short corner. Wapping ladies 0 Harleston Magpies 0 THE hosts enjoyed long spells of possession throughout the first half, culminating in a series of short corners. However, the team failed to convert their set pieces and ultimately couldn’t find a way through the Magpies’ defence. East London ladies 1 Wapping ladies 2nds 3 THE half-time score was 2-0 to Wapping, but Tori Barker pulled one back to give East London some hope. Wapping nabbed the third and decisive goal close to the final whistle. East’s player of the match was Karen Allan, for her committed defensive play. Boxing Marston mission MARIANNE Marston will finally move a step nearer a world title on Saturday, October 25. If she wins – and she will start favourite – Marston, who runs keep fit classes for women at the Canning Town gym and lives in the shadow of Canary Wharf, has been promised a world title fight.
