BY JESSICA ODUBAYO A VOLUNTEER who gives her time to community causes has been named as one of the country’s outstanding volunteers. Prime Minister David Cameron awarded Poplar resident Hélène-Marie Irving a Points of Light prize, in recognition of the work she has done for a range of charities across Tower Hamlets. She was nominated for the award by Dot Dot Dot, a borough-based social enterprise which allows people who volunteer to live cheaply in buildings that would otherwise be empty. A volunteer with 19 Princelet S t r e e t , the Museum of Immigration and Diversity in Spitalfields, for the last ten years, Hélène-Marie also helps at The Arbour community centre in Stepney as a social inclusion mentor, supporting a young migrant woman to develop her English language skills and confidence. She also found time to set up LondonSOUP, a dinner and micro funding project which aims to bring Londoners together to share a meal and raise funds for small, community-led projects. She said: “Being part of the Dot Dot Dot community has opened up opportunities I wouldn’t have thought about before. It’s changed the way I think about where I live, the way that I see my role in my neighbourhood and the city as a whole.” Hélène-Marie (second from right) with 19 Princelet Street volunteers (from left) Santosh Stride, Anup Patel, Nada Holland and Philip Black Peter Marlow/Magnum Photos Public notices PUBLIC NOTICE THE LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14 (1) TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC - GRIMSBY STREET E2 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets proposes to make an Order, which will prohibit vehicular traffic from entering, stopping or proceeding in the length of carriageway in Grimsby Street between its junction with Brick Lane and its junction with Cheshire Street.
