Yakub Miah, of Roman Road, E3 was charged on October 29. He has subsequently been remanded in custody to appear for plea and case management at the same court on January 27, 2015. Muslim Aid held the dinner and auction at the BT Tower for its Rainbow Family Child Sponsorship Programme. Among the guests were former England cricketer Graeme Swann –who donated a signed bat – and Rushanara Ali, MP for Bethnal Green and Bow. The Whitechapel Vision plans, which were published in March 2014, have generated a huge amount of interest from residents and businesses. The council has a number of strategic partners involved in the delivery of this project, including the Greater London Authority, Transport for London, Barts Health NHS Trust, Queen Mary, University of London, L&Q London Housing Association and Sainsbury’s. In practical terms, Whitechapel Vision will provide up to 3,500 new homes by 2025, including a substantial number of family and affordable homes. It aims to create 5,000 new jobs and transform Whitechapel Road, with seven new public squares and open spaces. Speaking about the nomination, Mayor Lutfur Rahman said: “It is fantastic news to hear that our vision for Whitechapel has been shortlisted for magic of the bascules being raised beneath their feet. Whitechapel Vision is set to rejuvenate the area with new uses for the town centre, and public spaces on both sides of the Whitechapel Road. Its plans to combine the area’s historic, cultural and community assets have seen it recognised at the awards, where it has been shortlisted for the award for Strategic Planning.
