Spa London at York Hall offers the latest modern therapies Training helps put the fun into football Women and girls’ swimming sessions – single sex swimming sessions which take place every week. The cost of a session is £1.10 for Better members –non-members can sign up at their local centre. Kids for a Quid – children aged under 16 can learn to swim, make new friends or just have fun with this special offer running Monday to Saturday. Free swimming for under-16s – available to Better members Monday to Saturday before 10am (during school holidays) and on Saturdays before 10am (term-time). Sessions available for £1 at specified times. Over-60s swimming– available for £1 at offpeak times. The For the Girls, By the Girls scheme (formerly Sport4Women) offers a range of activities starting from £1.15 for ages 14 and above. The aim of the project is to increase the number of women and girls taking part in sports and physical activity sessions which aim to be fun, affordable, available to all and are delivered by female coaches. Activities on offer include Pilates, dance, swimming, basketball, netb a l l , b a d - minton and hula hooping. In the last three years the project has seen more than 2,500 women and girls taking part and has grown to more than 30 sessions per week. Those who attend say they enjoy the sessions as they are affordable and give them the opportunity to socialise with likeminded women – and get fit too! The programme has been so successful that other areas in east London and further afield such as Cambridge are piloting the scheme. It has also been expanded into schools and community centres. The council has been working with women’s group such as the Jagonari Centre and Arbour Centre. The programme provides the same opportunities as Sport4Women but also caters for girls under 16. They include badminton, Pilates, table tennis, aerobics, and salsa, supporting older people to stay active and socialise. Young@Heart runs at Whitechapel and John Orwell sports centres, and Mile End Park, York Hall, St George’s and Tiller leisure centres. The Mile End Park and St George’s centres are part of the Tom Daley Diving Academyprogramme and both offer weekly adult and junior beginner courses and intensive holiday courses. Children from ages five to 16 can learn the basics of diving and the programme is perfect for novices.
