The three reached the finals of the Search for an Asian Soccer Star competition after showing they had star quality during a trial at Docklands Powerleague Centre in Crossharbour, on the Isle of Dogs. Now Minhazzul Islam, of Stepney, Imran from Bethnal Green, and Adam from Bow, will compete against 37 other rising young prospects in the hope of attracting the attention of professional clubs. Minhazzul, 15, plays football for Vallance FC, part of Vallance Community Sports Association in Club Row, Bethnal Green, and goes to Morpeth School. Imran is a 14-year-old Morpeth student, and won the league with Soul FC last year. He is a keen Arsenal fan. Chelsea fan Adam, 11, goes to St Paul’s Way School and plays for Vallance FC. And the three youngsters said they would never get a better opportunity to follow in the footsteps of players like Anwar Uddin and Michael Chopra – two of the few Asian players who have made the grade.
