Angela Gibson, who attended several events with her daughter, said: “I’ve always struggled to make my daughter eat her fruits and vegetables. After she made her own in the park, we’ve made some at home which she loves.” Nine-year-old Sabrina added: “I really liked making my own cardboard house. I made lots of friends and it was really exciting to meet lots of people and play together.” Children and their families helped build cardboard villages which they decorated inside the parks. The event proved to be popular as the children joined forces to replicate well known landmarks such as the Tower of London. Local parks have also hosted activities as part of the festival as youngsters were treated to traditional games, such as the coconut shy, and exciting sports activities. Large outdoor games filled the space as families competed with one another in the entertaining activities while funfair style rides and traditional sports provided a thrilling experience for everyone. Cabinet member for culture Cllr Shafiqul Haque said: “We had a range of events in parks all over the borough which encourages families to come together and enjoy the outdoors.” For more information visit www. towerhamlets.gov.uk/parks (Right) Daniel, 6, and Candy, 11, at A Day by the Seaside in Mile End Play Park Frankie, 9, with some healthy options at A Day by the Seaside in Mile End Play Park 8 – 14 SEPTEMBER 2014 N E W S FROM TOWER HAMLETS COUNCIL AND YOUR COMMUNITY 19
