Although formal identification awaits, officers say they are confident the dead man is 31- year-old Hassan Isman Omer from the Poplar area. His next of kin have been informed. Police were called just after 3am on December 26, to reports of a shooting at a private function inside Avalon nightclub in Shaftesbury Avenue. Choirs raise voices for homeless fund TWO community choirs joined forces to raise £2,000 at a concert in aid of a homeless night shelter. The government funding for the year 2014/15 brings the total the council has received to around £50 million since the scheme was first introduced in 2011. Developed as an incentive to encourage councils to build more homes, the scheme matches the council tax raised on each new house for a period of six years, with extra funding New homes will be built at Blackwall Reach for new affordable homes. Tower Hamlets has invested strongly in creating additional new homes, including affordable homes where possible, to support the borough’s residents. Recently completed work on the Ocean Estate saw more than 800 new and replacement homes built, while the development in Blackwall Reach, Poplar is set to provide around 1,600 new homes.
