They had to come from behind to gain their first league victory 3-1 away to Forest Glade, thanks to a fine double by player-manager Ashley King. Hamlets came close within minutes of the kick-off when King was sent clear only to have his shot saved. In a first half dominated by Hamlets, the Glade keeper made three good saves to keep the score at 0-0. But after the break Glade took a surprise lead. A free kick floated saw striker Paul Duggin rise above the Hamlets defence to head past keeper Nick Pyne. The lead only lasted three minutes before winger Patrick Hoy went on a run and drove into the penalty area where he was brought down by Glade’s left-back. Captain Tom Clancy duly despatched the penalty to equalise and grab his second goal in successive matches. Hamlets then took the lead five minutes later when good work by Ian Morris produced a cross and King looped his header over the keeper. Hamlets continued to produce some good football but also continued to waste good opportunities, but eventually their superiority paid off. John Gilroy dribbled through Glade’s field before squaring the ball to King, who collected his second of the game. East Londoners 1 FC Hamlets 1 HAMLETS worked hard to earn a point in their first Essex Olympian League match against local rivals East Londoners at Flanders Field. The game began slowly and became scrappy and Hamlets’ only real threat came mid-way through the first half when debutant Dillon Lennon hit a ferocious 25- yard shot that seemed to have gone in off the bar, but was not given by the referee. East Londoners took the lead with virtually their first attack midway through the half, following a Hamlets defensive mix-up. In the second half a more spirited FC Hamlets player-manager Ashley King was back among the goals Hamlets pushed for an equaliser. It was only a matter of time before captain Tom Clancy equalised from a corner, heading in off the underside of the crossbar. In the last ten minutes Hamlets piled on the pressure. They hit the woodwork, had a shot cleared off the line and had a penalty appeal turned down when debutant Patrick Hoy’s solo run was ended by the keeper. Takeley 1 Tower Hamlets 1 TOWER Hamlets made seven changes from the team that lost to Clapton the previous Saturday with former Histon player Junior Konadu and player-manager AJ Olatunbosun coming into the side. The first opportunity for Tower Hamlets came when they broke from the left hand side and the ball was cut back for Olatunbosun to hit a 25-yard shot which the keeper saved. Hamlets, who were pressing high up the pitch and playing some decent football, but without making a breakthrough. Then against the run of play Takeley took the lead after 64 minutes. A short corner went to the far post and the Takeley striker was left unmarked to score. Hamlets responded by attacking in numbers and it paid off when stand-in captain Kane Wilson hit the equaliser. Tower Hamlets 0 Clapton 1 TOWER Hamlets gave debuts to five players for this derby – and it showed. Clapton saw most of the ball in the first half, but lacked a cutting edge. Hamlets battled hard to try to get into the game, but Clapton were always too strong for them. With the half coming to a close, Jerome Paul in the Hamlets goal had to make a smart save to keep the score at 0-0. The second half was a different story. Captain Nathan Wilson fired in a shot from 30 yards and not long after Kane Wilson’s great cross eluded everyone. Clapton always looked dangerous though, and from a corner their number nine was left free to break the deadlock. With time running out Hamlets could have snatched a point, but Karl Blake headed just wide. Senrab Pumas under-10s 1 Westward Boys Tigers under-10 9 SENRAB took just five minutes to take the lead in this friendly at Bartlett Park, but Westward equalised straight after the restart and from then they dominated the game and were leading 5-1 at half time. The Senrab youngsters were playing a match for the first time and gave a spirited performance throughout, but Westward’s class shone through and they finished easy winners. Senrab Tigers under-10s 2 Westward Boys Lions 4 THE Lions were 2-0 up at half-time – both goals coming from Patrick Walker. Senrab started to pile on the pressure in the second half and pulled a goal back minutes after the re-start. Westward regained their two goal advantage with a goal from Aidan Bayram. Senrab scored again to make it an exciting finish, but Jamal Mohammed sealed the win for Westward with seconds left.
