POLICE are appealing for assistance to help trace a missing woman from Poplar. Edna Chibogwu (right), 69, wa s l a s t seen at around 7.30pm on Saturday, April 11, leaving her home in Teviot Street. Edna is a black woman, approximately 5ft 5in tall, with grey hair. She was last seen wearing a red and white bobble hat, a red jacket and a bright, multicoloured skirt. Edna was also carrying a cream-coloured handbag. Edna suffers from schizophrenia and requires regular medication. She is known to ride buses and when missing before has been found in the Bethnal Green and Fulham areas. Inspired by Bowie A PERFORMANCE inspired by a classic David Bowie song is being hosted at Oxford House on Friday, April 24. Howl at the Moon is described as a mix of music, comedy and street dance and is set just after the release of Bowie’s Space Oddity in 1969. See www.we gottickets.com/event/309534 QUEEN Mary University of London has registered its 100,000th visitor at its life science education programme. The milestone, coming in the fifth year since the creation of its Centre of the Cell, followed a visit by Year 4 pupils from Thomas Butxon Primary School in Whitechapel on Friday. Centre of the Cell is a podshaped, interactive show that teaches children about cell biology and biomedical research. It is housed above the university’s biomedical research lab at its Whitechapel campus. From April 20-26, Idea Stores will offer free access to the internet and support to learn a new language, find a job, discover new ways to help with children’s homework and find out about activities in the local area, plus online advice about money and health. There are also a number of UK Online centres in the borough that offer free access to the internet. The council has worked with local partners, including housing associations, voluntary and community groups, children’s centres and Idea Stores, to develop a digital inclusion strategy, which makes online resources more accessible to residents. The strategy was agreed at the council’s March cabinet meeting. The council is inviting older residents to trip the light fantastic at a tea dance at the Art Pavilion in Mile End Park. There will be live music from acclaimed London band The Sunshine Kings, who will play jazz, swing, traditional and vintage favourites from across the decades. The free event begins at 2pm but it is essential to book in advance on 7364 7924. On Saturday, April 25 the council, in partnership with the V&A Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, will host a traditional day of merriment. The museum in Cambridge Heath Road will be staging a variety of old-fashioned games and entertainment from 11.30am- 4.30pm. Highlights include performances by Becontree Brass Band, Cecil Sharpe House Choir and the Sea Shanty Choir. There will be ceilidh dancing as well as delicious homemade cakes from the East End Women’s Institute.
