If you are claiming benefits, you may be affected. Households who are not in work or have less than 24 hours work per week will be affected most. The impact of these changes could be serious and some households may no longer be able to afford their current housing costs. Tower Hamlets Council and its partners are helping prepare residents for the Government changes. Road closures during cycle events THE first two weekends of August will see popular sporting events in London affecting major roads through the borough. The Virgin Active London Triathlon takes place on the weekend of August 2 and 3, with approximately 12,000 people expected to compete. Road closures and diversions will be in place on Sunday, August 3, when the cycle race takes place – see the London Triathlon website at www.thelondontriathlon.co.uk for further details. The following weekend, the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling is taking place on August 9 and 10. The weekend will see thousands of cyclists, including some of the world’s top professionals, taking part in four separate events across London and Surrey. There will be road closures from early morning on both days to make sure the routes are secure and ready for the event. The Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle on Saturday, August 9 is a free, family friendly bike ride which will take place on closed roads within Westminster and the City to allow participants to experience the fun and freedom of cycling in London. There is still time to register for the FreeCycle event at www.prudentialride london.co.uk Tower Hamlets residents, businesses and road users are advised to plan ahead to avoid disruption, especially on Sunday, August 10 when road closures will be in place in the borough. A community engagement programme is underway to help residents and businesses along the routes plan ahead. This will include leaflet drops in May and July to residents and businesses along the routes, drop-in sessions for local people and community access plans.
