The Lansbury Estate in Poplar was named after him when it was built as part of the 1951 Festival of Britain, as an example of ‘housing for the people’ after World War II. The 88-year-old actress returned to the London stage to critical acclaim last week to play Madame Arcati in Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit, after an absence of 40 years. The film festival, hosted by community organisation Poplar Film, will feature seven screenings curated by Dame Angela, as well more than 50 films and other family entertainment.
