INTRODUCTION TO SUPPORT WORK IN SCHOOLS Are you interested in training to support children’s learning in the classroom? Tower Hamlets Support for Learning Service in partnership with LBTH Skillsmatch offers a 16- week part-time Teaching Assistant course with work placements in schools. London Borough of Tower Hamlets MORPETH SCHOOL Portman Place, E2 0PX Morpeth School is a popular, fully inclusive 11-19 comprehensive school located in Bethnal Green. The school is part of Cambridge Heath Sixth Form, a popular and successful consortium of three outstanding schools in Tower Hamlets. We are seeking to appoint to a number of posts supporting pupils’ learning and raising attainment. Academic Coaches – KS3 & KS4 (from Sept 2014 for 1 year) This role will entail supporting the learning and raising the attainment of pupils at KS3 and KS4 in numeracy/Maths or literacy/English. Applicants will be good honours graduates in Maths or English with a high level of academic literacy. Sixth Form Academic Mentors – KS5 (from mid-August 2014 for 1 year) We are looking for well qualified honours graduates to become Academic Mentors. You will support and challenge our sixth form students, helping them to become excellent independent learners at AS and A2. Applicants need to be able to offer more than one of the following subjects: English Literature, Government and Politics, History, RS (Philosophy and Ethics), Sociology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Business and Economics. You will need a high level of academic literacy. You will be expected to contribute to our sixth form enrichment programme and to be involved in the wider development of our sixth form. Applicants will have experience of working with young people and a belief in their ability to succeed. Both these posts are full time (35 hours per week), term time only plus three weeks, NJC Scale 4 £20,664pa pro rata (actual gross monthly salary £1,588) Teaching Assistants (from Sept 2014) We are looking for candidates with strong literacy and numeracy skills and the academic ability to support students effectively within the school curriculum. A minimum of a good GCSE pass in English and Maths is essential. The purpose of the role is to support pupils with Special Educational Needs, enabling them to take as full a part in the school curriculum as possible and ensuring that they make appropriate progress. The successful candidates will be asked to work in one of our specialist SEN teams. Part-time (29 hours per week), term time only, NJC Scale 2-3 depending on experience £18,210-£19,221 pro rata (actual gross monthly salary £1,076-£1,136) Closing date for all posts: Noon on Monday 30th June with interviews the following week.
