If you are claiming benefits, you may be affected. Households who are not in work or have less than 24 hours work per week will be affected most. The impact of these changes could be serious and some households may no longer be able to afford their current housing costs. Tower Hamlets Council and its partners are helping prepare residents for the Government changes. With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Local History Library and Archives in Mile End has organised a programme of events, including walks, talks, archive film screenings and poetry readings. It provides residents and visitors with opportunities to find out more about the lives of local people who experienced the conflict, and discover what happened to streets, communities and neighbourhoods. Highlights to come include: The Wounded Soldier and the East End of London by historian Gary Haines on September 18 at Tower Hamlets History Library at 6.30pm; Planning E1 124-126 Stepney Way – prior approval application for change of use from retail to residential. 156 Woodseer Street – application for prior approval for single-storey rear extension.
