Call... 7377 1362 News News in brief Boy, 15, charged with murder A TEENAGER has been charged with murdering a woman in Bow. The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Stratford Youth Court on Friday, February 14. He was remanded in custody. Police were called to Sandall House, Daling Way at 10.49am last Wednesday, February 12 where they found a 43-year-old woman who died shortly after their arrival. Police have not yet released her name. Anyone with information should call police on 8345 1570. History walks A SERIES of walking tours are being launched on Sunday, February 23 to give an insight into east London’s radical history from the 1830s to the 1930s. Trust up for award EAST London NHS Foundation Trust is in the running for an NHS England Excellence in Participation Awards. The trust’s standards audit has been shortlisted in the insight and feedback category. The winners will be announced on March 3. Canary Wharf Group (CWG) and the City of London Corporation will each provide £500,000 for the project. The number of people receiving the jab was also among the highest in any London borough. Seventy-six per cent of over- 65s in the borough were vaccinated against flu – more than in any other borough and well above the average of 69 per cent. Tower Hamlets ranked second for uptake among those most at risk under the age of 65 – at 61 per cent, compared to the average 51 per cent. The uptake of seasonal flu vaccination among pregnant women was 48 per cent, with London at 35 per cent. The jab is offered free to those over the age of 65, pregnant women and anyone whose health is at further risk from the flu, particularly those with a long-term condition. Cllr Abdul Asad, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “As it is still winter, those whose health could seriously be affected by the flu should speak to their GP about receiving their vaccination if they haven’t done so already.” Pregnant women are also offered the pertussis vaccination, which protects unborn babies from developing whooping cough – a serious infection that causes long bouts of coughing and choking, particularly dangerous to newborn babies. Last November, more than 60 per cent of pregnant women in Tower Hamlets were given the pertussis injection – the their newborn baby from developing whooping cough.” The flu jab is offered until the end of March.
