With more people working in and around Whitechapel, it is hoped the hub will act as an economic boost for the area and be a catalyst for regeneration. The new civic centre will be funded through efficiencies made by the council, and is just one of a number of MILE End stalwart Bernard Cameron was treated to an unusual event for his 84th birthday last Thursday, February 5 when residents of the British Street Estate opened a community garden in his honour. It’s fitting that we have purchased it, to make sure that it continues to be a part of the community long into the future.” He added: “It is worth pointing out that this is a real investment for the future. In transforming the site into a brand new civic hub, we will be delivering a real saving on our current town hall accommodation.” With the opening of the new Crossrail station in 2018, Tower Hamlets has identified Whitechapel as a huge growth opportunity waiting to happen. milltec IT distributors New Dell E6330 £399 MacBook Pro 13” 2012 LATE iMac 20.5” EX-LE ANTY £900 LAPTOP 14.1” EX-LEASE ONE YEARWARRANTY £650 490 Bethnal Green, E2 0EA 07774 12 13 14 020 7791 1200 EX-LEASE ONE YEARWARRANTY £120 247 Bethnal Green, E2 6AB 020 7739 3959 07913 912 911 Mayor’s column.................................................................6 Useful information.......................................................8 Valentine’s messages.....................................10 & 11 History................................................................................13 Council information...................................14 & 15 Harmony............................................................16 & 17 offer for residents and many signed up to Gransnet, keen to explore all the exciting features available.” To find out more call 7364 4332 or visit www.gransnet.com Canary Wharf Sports Awards....................18 & 19 Out & About Guide.........................................20 & 21 Eating out, eating in..................................................23 Property.................................................................25-29 Recruitment & training...............................30 & 31 Sport....................................................................33 & 36 East End Life is produced by Tower Hamlets Council, Town Hall, Mulberry Place, 5 Clove Crescent, E14 2BG.
