The University of East London student could only finish fifth in the Diamond League 100m race – just weeks after picking up a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games 100m and a sensational gold in the 200m at the European Championships. After finishing behind fellow Briton James Dasaolu, a still beaming Gemili said: “I felt tired at the start, but it was nice to get among this class of field, although I might have to call it a day this year and have a rest.” Gemili, who clocked 10.13s, lined up against Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell, two top sprinters returning after being banned for drugs offences.
