Send your stories to eastendlife. news@towerhamlets.gov.uk Schools news Grand prize is on offer The all-female Henry IV STUDENTS from Cambridge Heath Sixth Form presented business ideas to a panel of judges, as part of a programme teaching youngsters about entrepreneurship. The eight-week programme, titled The Next Big Thing, helps students understand the business and social environment they live in and develop life skills. The 16- to 18-year-olds were given an introduction to market research, developing a business idea, business planning, finance and communications. BY JESSICA ODUBAYO AN all-female production of Shakespeare’s Henry IV is taking up a week’s residency at Mulberry School for Girls. From December 9-13, West End theatre the Donmar Warehouse is putting on the play to challenge the notion of who owns Shakespeare and inspire confidence and creativity in young women. Henry IV is one of Shakespeare’s most celebrated and frequently performed history plays, which tells the story of the power struggle for the throne of England. The residency will encourage the community to take ownership of Shakespeare and foster a dialogue on the importance of the nation’s playwright. Jill Tuffee, deputy head teacher of Mulberry School, said: “We couldn’t be more grateful to Donmar for this opportunity.” A spokesman for the theatre said: “We believe that Shakespeare belongs to everyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnic origin or social background. “Shakespeare’s plays have the power to make you see the world differently, to inspire confidence and change lives.” Donmar Warehouse will be running free Henry IV workshops throughout the week at the school. Public performances for Tower Hamlets residents will take place at the school, in Commercial The Donmar Warehouse putting a new slant on Shakespeare’s Henry IV Road, Stepney, on Tuesday, December 9, Thursday, December 11, Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13. Shows start at 7pm. A performance for a women-only audience will be staged on Thursday, December 11 at 12pm and a matinee performance will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 2.30pm.
