Residents have volunteered to oversee the spending of £10,000 from the council on improvements in each ward, through Local Community Ward Forum meetings. The discussions in each ward are supported by the Mayor’s Community Champion Co-ordinators. All 38 new co-ordinators we r e awarded certificates and thanked by deputy mayor Cllr Oliur Rahman at an awards ceremony on Saturday, November 29. New champions will join with previous post-holders to run public meetings in each ward, starting in January. The meetings will be open to residents to discuss and set priorities and see how funds can be best spent to improve their areas. Cllr Rahman said: “This project has already seen positive results from the first round across Tower Hamlets. “In extending the scheme to a second year, the council thanks these dedicated residents who Cllr Mahbub Mamun Alam, deputy mayor Oliur Rahman and co-ordinator Ray Gipson Left: Sue Johnson, localisation manager are continuing to improve the borough. “It was a pleasure to meet the new intake of co-ordinators and it gave me a chance to thank them personally .” The council is stressing that co-ordinators are only responsible for the forums – other local issues should be directed through elected ward councillors.
