The fund aims to bring communities together through exhibitions, cultural activities and celebrations that help to break down the barriers to understanding between different faiths, cultures and beliefs. The small grants funding is also available to set up neighbourhood agreements over an eight-month period from June 2015 to January 2016. The deadline for applications is noon on Friday, April 24 and successful projects will be notified by May 22. Tower Hamlets’ Drug and Alcohol Action Team hosted the event on March 19 at the Professional Development Centre, Whitechapel, to enable current and previous clients to share their success stories. The event had a variety of information stalls that support CURTAINS were raised for the final time for students at the Bethnal Green branch of an award-winning theatre and film school, as the principal announced its closure. Anna Fiorentini, head of the school which bears her name, said the clients in seeking employment, training, making improvements to live a healthier lifestyle, volunteering and other life enhancing skills. Over 100 people were in attendance, with 27 clients awarded a certificate of achievement, for maintaining recovery and motivating other clients, going on to training, volunteering and securing employment. More than 250 residents successfully complete drug or alcohol treatments each year – over a third are in employment or training by the time they leave and all report improvements in their physical and mental health and quality of life. The event concluded with a moving drama delivered by professional actors sharing the life experiences of people who overcame their addictions. Marner first to have equalities action plan MARNER Primary School in Bow has become the first school in the borough to complete an equalities action plan. And it celebrated with an assembly on March 27. The council has been working with all state-maintained schools to develop equalities action plans, which will provide a framework for a supportive school life for children. Staff and school children at Marner already work with Phoenix School, a special school supporting children with disabilities.
