Katy McCafferty, who was born in Limehouse but now lives in Ireland, returned to the borough to visit family over the Easter break. Her 12-year-old son Jimmy has autism and uses a speciallytrained labradoodle, Kizzy, which assists him physically, keeps him safe and calms him down. Last week Katy, Jimmy and Kizzy, and younger son Joe went to a newsagent in Limehouse to top up an Oyster Card, but were told to leave the shop. “The shop keeper was very rude to us,” Katy told East End Life. “I explained our situation but he said he wasn’t having dogs in his shop. I said, you can’t ask us to leave, we are covered by the Equality Act 2010 and can’t be refused entry to a shop with a service dog. He told me he didn’t care and to shut up!
