After three tough contests he came home with a bronze medal. Eight-year-old Liam also won a bronze in the fight under-10 -30kg category. He won three of four fights and only lost to the champion. But not to be outdone by his sons, Raphael Veras, 31, an elite international competitor, Veras coach and chief instructor, competed in two events. Raphael won the senior male open fight title in real style, beating a giant French international opponent in the final. He then won a bronze medal, after three gruelling fights in the senior fight 70kg section winning two against his Belgium and Luxembourg opponents, but losing to another Belgium fighter in the semi-final. While Raphael and his sons were performing, Poplar’s Sanan Aliyev, 23, also an elite international who recently won the Wado Karate Federation world title, was in Switzerland, to represent his club and country at the Basel Masters Open. After three rounds, Sanan beat competitors from Belgium, Switzerland and France and returned home Senior Fighter – 67kg Champion. And they finished up with three champions. Sensei Raphael Veras and his three sons competed in the prestigious Coupe Internationale de Kayl, in Luxembourg, while experienced international Sanan Aliyev went to Switzerland for the Basel Masters Open. Veras got their first gold medal in Luxembourg when six-yearold Luca Veras, the youngest of the boys, competed in the fight male under-8 +25kg.
