Members from Age UK, St Hilda’s East Community Centre, the Peabody Trust, Neighbours in Poplar and the Wellbeing Centrewere among those attending the dance. A number of community organisations had information stalls and members from the Zacchaeus Project led the line dancing. Several of the mayor’s apprentices and over 100 students from Tower Hamlets College and Redbridge College went along to help on the day. For many residents, visiting the Troxy brought back memories of Saturday morning cinema and playing bingo. Mayor Rahman said: “I was pleased with the fantastic turnout – they are a great way to get the community together.” Three other events are planned. Who Cares for Your Carer Event – Monday, February 10 at the Ecology Pavilion, Mile End Park. Cllr Abdul Asad, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “Carers are unsung heroes and do a fantastic job. It is only right we should pay tribute to them byhosting a pamper day so they can be treated.” Recognising & Supporting our Disabled Residents – Monday, March 10 at The Troxy. Celebrating Everything Irish – Friday, March 14, at York Hall, Bethnal Green.
