The guard was carrying a cashbox when two men on a moped appeared at 3.30pm. One of the riders got off the bike and attacked him. Members of the public detained one of the men until the police arrived and arrested him, before taking him to hospital with minor injuries. The other man made off on the moped. The security guard received medical treatment at the scene. Tall ships sail in A FLEET of more than 20 tall ships will be stationed at the eastern edge of the estate, formerly known as Wood Wharf, for three days, following the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta. They will be there from Saturday to Monday, September 6-8, between 10am and 6pm, as part of the Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Festival. Many of the fleet will be free to view. And themed entertainment and interactive experiences, including roaming entertainers for children, as well as food and drink stalls, will feature alongside the ships. On Tuesday, September 9 the vessels will join another 34 ships, which will be moored off Greenwich, to sail down the river as a grand finale to the event. Love, laughs and re-invented classics in season of drama A Season of Bangla Drama will run from November 1-30 at a number of venues across Tower Hamlets. Theatrical productions will be augmented by the addition of an exhibition, talk and panel discussions. Identity, hierarchy, love and migration are just some of the themes that will be explored on stage this November as part of the festival. The council invited submissions for the programme earlier this summer with the aim of championing local talent and delivering high-calibre and diverse plays and dances which are uplifting or challenging, but always relevant. The panel received a number of high-quality entries, and have whittled it down to 15 productions, with originality being BEFORE last weekend’s torrential rain, residents were happy to get wet when they took part in Mile End Park’s Water Festival. Scores of families flocked to the Children’s Park area for a drenching from park rangers – and each other. The event was just one of several activities organised over the summer holidays as part of the council’s 2014 Sports and Play Festival, which has helped keep hundreds of youngsters busy and active since schools closed. Hundreds enjoy health day GOOD weather lifted spirits at Victoria Park’s Sports & Healthy Living Day last Wednesday, as hundreds turned out to try out free activities. Organised by the council to encourage healthy lifestyles, it featured activities including running, cycling, volleyball, fivea side football, trampolining, tug o’ war, Zumba and relaxing massages. In addition to this the park rangers handed out free fruit. Cllr Shafiqul Haque, cabinet member for culture, said: “I hope the day will inspire residents to make exercise a regular part of their routine and try out the range of sports on offer in Tower Hamlets.” There is a sport or physical activity to suit all abilities at leisure centres, where residents can try everything from badminton, football, dance and karate right though to canoeing and cycling.
